5 Ways to Get Your Focus Back On Track

Published by mswrite at 10:35 pm under Health & Wellness, Life, Self-Employment Edit This

Do you ever have one of those days where you wake up and you can just feel that it is going to be an awesome day? You enjoy your coffee while making a mental plan on how to attack your list of everything you want to accomplish, only to delve into your work and find that that not only are you not being productive, but your jumping from task to task without finishing anything? I have many days like that and I finally found ways to get me on track.

Step away from the computer. If your work involves being in front of the computer, but you find yourself surfing more than working, it is time for you to take a break. Not only will your neck, shoulders and back thank you, but you will return refreshed.  Not sure what to do away from the computer? Here are just 5 ways that I get my focus back on track.

  1. House work. Usually when I’m out of synch, my house is also out of synch. Set the timer for 20 minutes and start cleaning. Usually in 20 minutes, I am able to do the dishes and straighten the living room. Sometimes, I can even get it vacuumed. The quick break not only gets you step closer to a cleaner house, but it also gets your blood pumping and you feel more energized.
  2. Strike a pose. Yoga is a great way to clear the mind and get those creative juices flowing.  Simply doing a few yoga stretches is enough to boost your energy. If you prefer a longer workout, 20 minutes with or without music will do wonders. You will feel great and be ready to tackle your projects.
  3. Speaking of music, pop in a cd of your “happy” music and dance. Don’t worry, noone is watching, so cut the rug like nobody’s business.
  4. Get outside. Good ol’ sunshine and fresh air does wonders in restoring energy and focus. Spend at least 15 minutes - go for a walk, or just sit and enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of the outdoors.
  5. Eat brain food. When I really need to focus, I eat Tuna. Protein fuels the brain and the low-fat content in the tuna prevents tiredness. Try it, it works.
